Burundi Kirundo - Single Origin

Part of the Cafex coffee project set up by a Belgian & Burundi couple to combine their ancestral coffee farm with sustainable development and the desire to improve the lives of the local population.

In conjuction with our green import partner Cafex built Ikawa Nziza’s mill, the first speciality drymill in Burundi focussing on high quality traceable micro lots.

The production of this coffee starts with superior quality ripe cherries, picked and sun dried on raised beds, they are turned every 2 hours for even fermentation and covered in the midday sun to prevent damage.

When optimum moisture levels are met, they are transported for milling at Ikawa Nziza’s mill between the towns of Ngazi & Muyinga, once processed and hand picked it bagged and truckeded to to Mombasa for shipment.

A lovely coffee with a nice fuller body and medium acidity give a balanced and tasty cup with stone fruits, a touch of orange blossom and a strawberries and cream mouthfeel.

Roast Day
Roast & dispatch days are Tuesday & Wednesday. All orders placed after midnight on Tuesday will be roasted & dispatched the following Tuesday.
